These large format bottles are perfect for aging and collecting.
They beg to be shared with friends and family to celebrate special
events, and they are magnificent in size and shape.
The Wine
We are proud to present this eighth flight of Howell
Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, known for its bold mountain fruit and
firm tannic structure, presented here in a Double Magnum bottle. 3
- 3 Liter bottles produced.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this vintage were harvested from the prestigious
Howell Mountain appellation. In a hillside vineyard, with limited
available water and nutrients, the vines produce very low yields of
intensely flavored, tiny grapes. Only a hillside vineyard could
yield this deep, dense, concentrated richness.
Winemaker Notes
The small, jewel-like clusters yielded a majestic wine of great
complexity and the Howell Mountain Cabernet is abundantly aromatic
with rich, dark chocolate, sweet black cherry, toasty oak and a
hint of earth. Layer upon layer of luscious cassis, blackberry and
mocha coat the palate, finishing with subtle nuances of smoke and
spice with firm, chewy tannins. It's depth and structure make it a
great candidate to cellar for years to come.
What is a Double Magnum?
A Double Magnum contains four times the amount of wine as a 750ml
bottle.
Why are larger format bottles considered to be better than
smaller bottle formats?
Wine ages slower in larger formats.
Will the wine qualities of a Double Magnum present better
over time than a standard 750ml bottle?
Slower maturation can lead to better qualities due to a slower
chemical reaction occurrence. Chemical reactions respond to
temperature and surface area; the larger the volume of the
container the smaller the surface area, and the less ultra-violet
light and slower oxygen diffusion. This all leads to slower
chemical reactions and slower maturation.
